Bjarni Viðar Sigurðsson left his banking career in 1996 to pursue ceramics. He attended Aarhus Kunstakademiin Denmark and, after graduating in 2000, opened the workshop and studio, Baghuis Atelieret. Bjarni returned to Iceland in 2007 where he is now located.
Bjarni’s draws inspiration from the tension and change he observes in his native landscape. Iconic Iceland sceneries such as the ever-evolving rough textures of Jökulsárlón and smooth, basalt steps of Vik Beach set the precedent for Bjarni’s clean forms and experimentation with varied glazes. Bjarni excels in creating uniquely different pieces through layers of glazes (He estimates he's worked with over 1,000 glazes throughout his career).
Raised with 9 siblings, Bjarni is passionate about making his work available to all who enjoy it.
