Wing Yau is a New York-based designer born in the Pacific Northwest.
Hailing from a background in sculpture at Rhode Island School of Design, she assisted NYC artists and galleries before falling into design. After making a series of necklaces based on textile sculptures, Yau developed WWAKE in 2012 with the intention of merging art with the intimacy of jewelry. In 2013 she launched her first fine jewelry collection, for which the brand is known for today.
Since its launch, WWAKE has been recognized by publications such as The New York Times, Vogue, W Magazine, and Elle, to name a few, and has been worn by celebrities such as Rihanna, Zoe Kravitz, Solange, and Emma Watson.
Inspired by the tradition of art breaking with convention, WWAKE offers a new perspective on heirloom jewelry. With a thoughtful balance of tension & scale, each piece re-contextualizes jewelry into unexpected arrangements and modern silhouettes.
All materials are sourced as sustainably, focusing on recycled materials to reduce the impact of commercial mining practices, as well as fair trade materials that provide positive impact to responsible mining communities from around the globe. All WWAKE jewelry is then crafted in New York before it travels to flora and henri, where it hopes to then find a unique home with you.
